Exact language architecture
L1 requires C2. L2 and L3 require at least C1. Language 4 is used only for reasoning and may be any of the 24 official EU languages.
For DA, DE, ET, HR, NL, RO and SL, L1 is the profile language, L2 is English and L3 is another official EU language distinct from L1 and L2.
For EN, L1 is English. L2 may be any other official EU language. L3 must be a further official EU language distinct from L1 and L2. English-profile candidates therefore sat both L2 and L3 comprehension.
Qualifications
Candidates need a completed course of university legal education recognised under the profile-specific national rules in Annex III. No professional experience is generally required after a qualifying four-year degree. A three-year degree may require one year of relevant professional experience. The English profile expressly requires expertise in EU law and common law.
Processing gates
- EPSO scores reasoning first. Failure below the combined 15/30 ends processing.
- EPSO then scores EU law. Failure below 15/30 ends processing.
- Candidates are ranked by EU-law score. Eligibility is checked in descending order until no more than four times the reserve-list target remain.
- EPSO scores revision and comprehension only for candidates surviving those gates.
- Final ranking applies the notice weights and all applicable pass marks.
Final weights
EU law contributes 30%. Revision contributes 50%. Comprehension contributes 20%.
For non-English profiles, L3 comprehension supplies the full 20%. For the English profile, L2 supplies 10% and L3 supplies 10%. Reasoning is a gateway, not part of the weighted final score.
Training rule
Do not convert comprehension into a fake pass mark. Do not add reasoning points to the final weighted score. Practise each official clock independently.
