Final status: closed, with three reserve lists and later addenda
EPSO/AD/402/23 is not an open competition. The main reserve lists for all three economics fields were published on 21 October 2025. Later addenda added 31 names. The addendum notices state that the lists remain valid until 30 June 2029.
| Field | Reopened-period candidates | Main list | Addendum | Published total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Microeconomics/macroeconomics | 2,502 | 301 | 14 | 315 |
| Financial economics | 3,350 | 365 | 9 | 374 |
| Industrial economics | 1,278 | 195 | 8 | 203 |
| Total | 7,130 | 861 | 31 | 892 |
The field overview pages still display 31 December 2028 as the validity date. The later field-specific addenda state 30 June 2029, so EPSOHQ uses that later date while exposing the discrepancy. The older application-period figures shown on the field pages are reported separately and are not added to the reopened-period totals because the populations may overlap.
Why the competition was reopened in 2024
Serious technical problems affected the online tests held from 2 to 4 October 2023. EPSO suspended the test delivery. The 28 May 2024 amending notice annulled those tests and reopened applications under a revised procedure.
The new application deadline was 9 July 2024. A later corrigendum moved the supporting-document deadline to 31 December 2024. The revised tests took place on 30 January 2025.
Exact amended test profile
| Test | Questions | Time | Pass rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Numerical reasoning, Language 1 | 10 | 20 minutes | 6/10 separately |
| Verbal reasoning, Language 1 | 20 | 35 minutes | Combined with abstract |
| Abstract reasoning, Language 1 | 10 | 10 minutes | Verbal + abstract: 15/30 |
| Field-related MCQ, Language 2 | 30 | 40 minutes | 15/30 plus a sufficiently high ranking |
| Written Test, Language 2 | — | 45 minutes | 5/10 |
Language 1 required C1. Language 2 required B2 and had to be different. The amendment opened both choices across the 24 official EU languages. The field MCQ score was also the ranking gate: merely reaching 15/30 did not guarantee eligibility checking or a reserve-list place.
Written Test archive boundary
The amended competition replaced the case study with a Written Test assessing written communication against five anchors. It lasted 45 minutes. The competition-specific source used for the January 2025 session is no longer exposed on the current field pages.
EPSOHQ therefore provides method-faithful practice using a clearly identified public official source. It does not claim to reproduce the live task, recover a missing source or assess economics knowledge through the communication score.
New EPSOHQ package
The EPSO/AD/402/23 Economics archive and training database includes:
- Ten modules covering the competition history, shared analysis, all three fields, econometrics and reserve-list recruitment.
- Three separate 80-question English field banks: microeconomics/macroeconomics, financial economics and industrial economics.
- An archived-format mock with the correct separate numerical and combined verbal/abstract thresholds.
- A 45-minute Written Test simulator with autosave, word count and five-anchor self-scoring.
- Direct links to the original notice, amendment, corrigendum, field pages and three addenda.
Official sources prevail
Start with the original notice and the amending notice. For final list state, use the field pages and addenda: field 1, field 2 and field 3. Candidate-account messages remain authoritative for individual recruitment matters.
