What the calculator does

  1. 1Loads the official monthly basic salary for staff category, grade and step.
  2. 2Applies working time, eligible family and residence allowances, then duty-station coefficient.
  3. 3Estimates pension, insurance, unemployment, EU tax and special levy where the model applies them.
Questions

EU salary calculator FAQ

What is the current EU salary grid in 2026?

The latest published EU salary grid is the 2025 annual update in Official Journal C/2025/6564. It applies from 1 July 2025 and remains the current published grid until the next annual update is published.

What is the difference between an EU grade and step?

The grade reflects the level of the post. The step is the pay point within that grade. Each grade has several steps, so two people in the same grade can have different basic salaries.

Is basic EU salary the same as take-home pay?

No. Take-home pay depends on pension and insurance contributions, EU tax, any special levy, correction coefficients and allowances based on residence and family circumstances.

How does the correction coefficient change EU salary?

A correction coefficient adjusts remuneration for the duty station compared with Brussels and Luxembourg. A coefficient above 100 increases adjusted amounts. A coefficient below 100 reduces them.

Which allowances does this EU salary calculator include?

The estimate includes household, dependent-child, education, preschool, expatriation and foreign-residence allowances. Eligibility depends on the Staff Regulations and the documents accepted by the employing institution.

Is the calculated take-home salary guaranteed?

No. This is an independent planning estimate based on published figures and a documented calculation model. Only the employing EU institution can issue an authoritative individual calculation.
