About COB
COB manages the International Motor Insurance 'Green Card' system and coordinates the daily operation of the European Motor Insurance Directives. Operating under the aegis of the United Nations, COB works closely with EU Institutions to support the free movement of vehicles, and the settlement of international motor accident claims across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Role purpose
COB is looking for a Legal Coordinator to join its Secretariat in Brussels. The Legal Coordinator provides legal, technical and organisational support to COB committees and working groups, and acts as a trusted point of contact for members and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
Committee & working group support:
prepare agendas and supporting papers;
attend meetings and draft clear minutes;
coordinate follow-up and circulate outcomes.
Legal and technical work:
prepare legal and technical analysis;
produce questionnaires and information material;
contribute to policy and operational documentation;
monitor jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Member and stakeholder liaison:
liaise with Member Bureaux, Guarantee Funds, Compensation Bodies and Information Centres;
maintain constructive contact with external partners (including United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and the European Commission).
International coordination:
support exchanges with the insurance sector and European Institutions;
travel mainly in Europe from time to time when required.
Candidate at a glance
Legal profile:
Law degree or equivalent legal background
Languages:
Excellent written and oral English; other EU languages an asset
Working style:
Organised, collaborative, independent and comfortable in a small team
Legal Coordinator - detailed profile
A practical, member-facing legal role in an international organisation with a clear public-interest mission.
Candidate profile:
Degree in Law; a strong equivalent legal qualification may also be considered if the overall profile is relevant;
Experience in motor insurance, claims handling or insurance more generally is an asset;
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
Knowledge of other EU languages is an asset;
Right to work in Belgium/the EU or a valid work permit;
Good organisational skills, sound judgement and attention to detail;
Strong interpersonal skills: able to work independently and as part of a small international team;
Good computer literacy and ability to work with standard office tools.
